Detroit rocker Jack White, of the White Stripes, The Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, is going solo. White has announced the forthcoming release of his solo debut album Blunderbuss in April and this week has released his debut solo single Love Interruption. According to White himself, the collection of songs on Blunderbuss are completely new compositions … that is, they are not left over tracks from his work with the White Stripes, The Raconteurs or any of his many other collaborations. We’ve seen Jack White do a lot of things. First came the White Stripes, of course, and then the seemingly endless list of side projects and collaborations, some (The Raconteurs, Loretta Lynn, Wanda Jackson, the Dead Weather, John C. Reilly) better than others (okay, mostly just Insane Clown Posse). We’ve even seen the man take home an elephant head! This spring, though, we’ll get see him do something new: go solo. White announced today that he’ll be releasing his solo debut Blunderbuss on April 24 via Third Man Records, the label/record store/recording studio he runs out of Nashville. “I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time, but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name,” White says of the record. “These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.” And if his album’s very, very good lead single is any indication, Blunderbuss will be worth the wait.

I am a huge Jack White fan. I’ve been loving the White Stripes for many, many years … way back when they used to play free shows at The Gold Dollar in downtown Detroit. That said, I think my fave of his groups is The Raconteurs … Jack paired with fellow Detroit rocker Brendan Benson is just the best thing ever. I must admit, tho, I am curious to hear what his solo stuff will sound like. I don’t expect it to be vastly different from the sound he is already known for so, that’s comforting. I suspect there may be a collaboration or two on Blunderbuss but, then again, mebbe not. At this point, I’m intrigued … and curious to hear more. Any Jack White fans in the hiz? Oh lord … here we go … if y’all thought that Saturday Night Live was in bad shape before (with week after week of lame skits and unfunny jokes) then you’re gonna LOVE this bit of info I have to share today. Alec Baldwin, one of the stars of 30 Rock, happened to come upon some inside info in the SNL studios and is blabbing today that Justin Bieber is among the celebs who will be hosting SNL in the coming weeks and months (you may recall that The Biebs was the musical guest on SNL back in April of 2010). Alec Baldwin just did something that would certainly anger his 30 Rock character, NBC exec Jack Donaghy: He leaked official network intel. On today’s episode of Baldwin’s “Here’s The Thing” podcast on WNYC, the 30 Rock actor delves in deep with Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels, and in the process, reveals that Justin Bieber will host SNL in the upcoming months. Setting the scene at Michaels’ office, Baldwin reads off some of the names that appear on a board of confirmed SNL hosts this season. Among them is the Biebs, who previously served as the musical guest in April 2010 (and popped by for a Church Lady skit and a digital short last February) but has never hosted the show. Michaels confirms Baldwin’s announcement with a yes, 26 minutes into the podcast. Baldwin innocently notes: “The biggest names in the business are coming here thirty-something years [after SNL's debut] to host the show. Ben Stiller, Melissa McCarthy, [who] won the Emmy award, and Katy Perry’s coming and Jimmy Fallon, who’s double-dipping on your payroll, Jonah Hill, and I don’t want to ruin any other names, [but] Bieber’s confirmed, he’s the music and the [host].” If this is true (NBC has not yet confirmed), Bieber will follow in the footsteps of fellow pop star host Katy Perry, who took the comedy reigns this past December. Bieber showed off his acting chops (if you want to call them that) with a minor guest spot on CSI on the 2010-2011 season. Next up on the SNL slate is host Zooey Deschanel with musical guest Bon Iver on Feb. 4, followed by Channing Tatum with musical guests Karmin on Feb. 11.

HMMMM. I’m really looking forward to having Melissa McCarthy and Ben Stiller host the show but … Bieber? I dunno. My gut tells me he will make a terrible host but, then again, he’s young and feisty … he might actually surprise us all and turn out to be a great host. I suppose we shouldn’t get our panties in a wad until we know for sure that he will be hosting but … I gotta know … what do y’all think about this? Earlier today we learned that Simon Cowell made the executive decision to fire Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones from The X Factor and right now we get to read his just released official statement on the firings. Simon‘s statement is short but is full of thank yous and love … but no sign of apologies. Simon maintains that he plans on working again with Paula Abdul on a new project in the future. Paula, for her part, has been very magnanimous about her very public axing from The X Factor. If memory serves, Simon say the same thing about working with Paula in the future back when she got fired from American Idol … and he did keep his word … I guess. I dunno, tho … it seems like if I were Paula Abdul, I’d shy away from working with Simon Cowell in this kind of capacity again. How much of this kind of thing can one person take from their “friend”? The Art Deco set was designed to evoke the all-white, Jazz Age interiors of English decorator Syrie Maugham, whose clients included Bunny Mellon, Elsa Schiaparelli, and the Duchess of Windsor; V.F.’s fashion and style director, Jessica Diehl, put the 11 cover starlets in pastel satin dresses and frothy feathers to lend a 20s and 30s boudoir feel. Across the panels are actresses Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling. This is very nice selection of actresses. I like that I am only familiar with a few of these actresses and that the others are fresh, new faces to get to know. Jennifer Lawrence may have been nominated for an Academy Award last year but I predict that this year will be her biggest year yet. Blah. The good news is that the cold I was coming down with back home in Detroit is almost completely gone (thank you meds) but the bad news is that my allergies kicked into high gear late Sunday night/early Monday morning. A few years ago, I used to suffer from allergy outbreaks of hives but these days, I don’t really get them anymore … that is, unless I’m around cats for extended periods of time. Since I was staying at my BFF Sarah’s place last week, I think her two kitties caused my flare up. Yesterday was mostly an uncomfortable day of hives but, thankfully, they have almost entirely gone away today. Since I wasn’t really in the mood to go out, I got to spend some time watching TV … including last night’s FABULOUS season 4 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

As you may recall, we got our first look at RuPaul’s Drag Race season 4 back in November and then we got a second look in December … but last night was the BIG premiere night. I have to say, I’m just so happy that we live in a world where Drag Race is a show that we get to see on TV. There is a lot of intolerance out in the world but shows like Drag Race give me hope that we as a society can be accepting of all kinds of different people … plus, I just really love watching catty and bitchy queens go at one another in fierce competition for fame and fortune. Last night’s season 4 premiere ep was a lot of fun … but I’m calling it right now … my girl Willam is going to win the whole damn thing. I’ve met Willam a few times and the way you see her on the show is exactly how she is in real life … she’s a pro, people. Because she’s already a star, I think she’s got this competition in the bag. But, I have to tell you … I’ve never seen Willam out of drag before last night. He is cute … even with the Justin Bieber hair It’s going to be fun watching Drag Race this season. The 27-year-old beamed at the cameras during the romantic stroll, obviously not afraid of showing off the courtship. The Lost In Translation Star was spotted with the man again on Saturday, with her arm around his waist, after a gym workout. Scarlett split from Sean in June after five months together, amid rumours he did ‘not want to be tied down’. He divorce from actor Ryan Reynolds was made final [the following] month. The couple had married in September 2008, but announced their separation in December 2010. Ryan is now seeing Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively … Meanwhile, it was claimed she was so keen to avoid any encounters with ex-husband Ryan and his new girlfriend in New York, that she is considering buying a property in London.
Sources said the Hollywood pin-up was in the capital last week and visited an estate agent to help with her search for an apartment.

They sure do look close tho. Hand holding one day, a walking embrace the next … by the looks of these photos, the pair do look pretty cozy. We are still 5 days away from Madonna‘s big Super Bowl XLVI halftime show this coming Sunday February 5 but right now, TODAY, we get to check out the first photos of her top secret Super Bowl halftime show stage! A very industrious person managed to sneak a camera into Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN to snap some photos of Maddy‘s stage as it was being set up and tested … and YOU can check out a whole slew of those photos below. Call it a hunch … but Madonna’s gonna perform Vogue this Sunday at the Super Bowl Halftime Show — this according to several behind-the-scenes pics of the stage, obtained by TMZ. The pics were snapped over the weekend in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis — while crew were testing stage lighting for the upcoming performance … and you can clearly see the word “Vogue” lit up on the floor panels. Nicki Minaj is rumored to be a part of the show as well …. probably because she’s featured on Madonna’s new song, which Madge is expected to premiere at the Super Bowl.

M.I.A. has confirmed that she is performing at the Super Bowl with Madonna and Nicki Minaj, we already know, is bragging that she, too, will be performing with Madonna in her newest music video. I’m trying to NOT pay attention to will.i.am‘s assertion that LMFAO will also be performing with Madonnna at the Super Bowl … mainly cuz I hope it just won’t happen :/ Still, no matter who performs with Maddy this weekend, the excitement for the big show continues to grow with each passing day. You can tell by the vibrant color of Madonna‘s album cover for M.D.N.A. that she is really going to bring it hard with this new era of music. My guess is this weekend’s Super Bowl halftime show will be the start of her colorful, musical onslaught. This year’s Super Bowl halftime show is going to be fun … I just know it!

Congratulations are in order for British royals Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, because today we learn that the couple have adopted a new member into their family! Apparently, this member of the British royal family has been around since at least the start of this month and is only a few months old … but today palace officials have confirmed the adoption! Click below to see the first photo of Wills, Kate and the newest member of their family.

The new arrival became a talking point among royal fans and commentators when he was spotted dashing around the feet of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during a beach stroll in Wales earlier this month. And now, the couple’s palace handlers have finally confirmed what was suspected: the adorable addition is the pair’s new pet. A palace source says the adopted puppy – a male – is a “few months old,” is a black cocker spaniel and comes from a litter “with a close family connection.” The Middletons are known to fancy spaniels. The Westminster Kennel Club had earlier told PEOPLE that the cocker spaniel looked to be about 10 weeks old. With a name still to be announced, the puppy will no doubt help Kate deal with William’s absence when he heads for a deployment to the Falkland Islands, in the south Atlantic for six weeks. And he may be good successor to William’s dog Widgeon, a black Labrador who passed away about two years ago.

Aww, isn’t this the cutest? At this point, we don’t know the name of this little dude or dudette but now that the word is out that Wills and Kate have a new pet pooch, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about him/her very soon. I have to say … the adoption of a dog is just PERFECT timing right now for the young couple. Folks are chomping at the bit for the pair to have a baby … but I think the time is just right for the addition of a pet dog, especially with Wills‘s imminent military deployment. This is just really happy news … congrats and love goes out to the newly expanded family.
